Balenciaga Exhibit/Gala at De Young Museum

This was a busy week with Balenciaga Exhibit/party at one of the most beautiful places in the city as well as one my favorites place to visit.

The Balenciaga exhibit started with a splendid party where guests flew in from far and stylish NY and LA to see a master’s work. The Thursday night party was jam-packed with luminaries celebrating the glamour and elegance of Balenciaga alongside San Francisco’s fashion elite.
Thursday night event
The second event on Saturday night, hosted by Kelly Hochman and Julie Yarbrought from Art Point, started with a VIP party where it was served decadent Spanish-influenced cocktails and hors d’oeuvres while guest could tour the Balenciaga Exhibit which had Hamish Bowles, European editor at large for Vogue, as a guest curator.
Balenciaga fashion house was founded in 1914. Balenciaga had a reputation as a couturier of uncompromising standards and was referred to as "the master of us all" by Christian Dior. Balenciaga was an innovator in his use of fabrics: he tended toward heavy fabrics such as silk gazar, intricate hand embroidery, and bold materials. His trademarks included "collars that stood away from the collarbone to give a swanlike appearance" and shortened "bracelet" sleeves. His often spare, sculptural creation includes funnel-shape gowns of stiff duchess satin and silk gazar.
